Resul Pookutty, who won the
National Award for Parthiban's Oththa Seruppu under the Best Audiography category, says the recognition was really unexpected for him. He says that he has been busy with three projects and that he wasn't aware that the 67th National Awards announcement was happening on Monday. In fact, he got to know about the award from some of his media friends.
He opens up, "It was really a surprise; I'm really humbled at the jury's decision.
After the release of Oththa Seruppu, I had received lots of messages from across Tamil Nadu, from friends, media and movie buffs, appreciating the sound work. Many opined that sound was the second hero of the film. It was a special film because of the challenge involved in it. Initially, I wondered if people would feel claustrophobic as there is only one actor performing in a limited space. I wanted to explore the various possibilities in such a scenario. I wanted the audience to feel that they are introduced to new characters and places through the sound design. It was a completely new experience for me."
This is the second National Award for him. Interestingly, Resul says that both the times, it was for regional films that he had won the recognition. He adds, "I have done only a few projects in Tamil and Malayalam. But I can say it is the regional cinema which has more guts to experiment. I strongly feel that regional film is the spinal cord of Indian cinema. I'm happy I have won the prestigious award for a Tamil movie. In Tamil, actors, directors and writers are so passionate about making movies."
